Rumor: No New Trailer This Week?

Writer's picture: Stephen MillerStephen Miller

So there is word going around that there won't be a second trailer for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters this week. This news was announced from Screen Rant only a couple days after Michael Dougherty announced that there will be one. The reason that was given was because there was the Captain Marvel and The Avengers 4 trailers being released this week as well. To be honest with you, until I hear straight from the horses mouth I am not buying this news.

When it comes to journalism, the first rule is to always site your sources and there should be at least THREE sources that confirms the news as fact. Screen Rant only has one source which they say they were contacted by Warner Bros. themselves confirming that there won't be another trailer this week. Sure, other sources picked it up saying the same thing, but the one source they are getting this info from is Screen Rant. Let's say Warner Bros. does say that they are going to hold off on releasing the trailer, don't you think that this news would have been made official if they were the ones that announced it themselves in an interview? Or perhaps contacted multiple entertainment news outlets to spread this news? Why is Screen Rant the only source that was made a special exception to contact? I know that places like Gormaru Island and Trailer Tracker have been known to be consistent and accurate with their news, which I am grateful for, however even though Gormaru Island is sourcing from Trailer Tracker, we see once again that Trailer Tracker got their source from Screen Rant. There is no actual confirmation that there won't be a new trailer this week. Screen Rant is known for writing click-bait material. Remember what I said back in July that there will be a lot of people going into "My Dad works for Nintendo," mode? I wasn't lying to you. This is one example of that and that is how Screen Rant sounds. It just sounds like playground talk.

Also, why are the Captain Marvel and The Avengers 4 trailers the ones that Warner Bros. has to worry about? The trailer for Captain Marvel releases today and The Avengers 4 trailer releases on Wednesday. Warner Bros. has the rest of this week to release the second Godzilla: King Of The Monsters trailer. They have Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to release it. I'm sure enough just from how well the first trailer was received at San Diego Comic Con that I'm sure the new trailer will be able to create just as much excitement as The Avengers 4 trailer will probably create. Also, look at the dates of release for both The Avengers 4 and Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. The Avengers 4 is due for release at the beginning of May while Godzilla: KOTM is due for release at the end of May. That is four weeks apart from each other. So to say that Warner Bros. is worried about a Marvel movie doing better than Godzilla is full of baloney to me.

Lastly, there is another Comic Con like event happening in Brazil. This Comic Con is running from December 6th - 9th and guess what is expected to show at the event? Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, of course. The reason why Godzilla: King Of The Monsters is expected at Brazil's Comic Con is because of a little cheat people found on the Monarch Sciences website. If you go on the website and you change the date on your computer to December 6th you can find stuff on the map being unlocked. If you change the dates to December 7th and 8th, Godzilla will appear on the Godzilla tracker again heading straight for Brazil. Thus confirming that Godzilla will make some sort of appearance at Brazil Comic Con. So it begs the question why go to Tokyo Comic Con to show a teaser for the trailer, announce that the full trailer will be released this week, and then announce that it won't be released this week despite going to Brazil to attend at another Comic Con? If I were to choose any time to release the second trailer I think between December 6th and December 9th are perfect days.

Again, I am not going to be taking this news seriously until I hear it straight from Warner Bros. This is all just rumor. The rule in journalism is that you need to have more than one source to confirm anything as news. As of right now, other sources are just getting their source from one source, which is Screen Rant. If it is true that it won't be released this week, then at least we won't have to wait very long. I'm sure that Warner Bros. wants this trailer out by the time Aquaman is released. With another Comic Con event coming up in Brazil this week that is as good of a time as any other time to release the full Godzilla: King Of The Monsters trailer.
