In the past month, we have had small updates for Godzilla vs Kong. Mainly, they're images from the new Kong and Godzilla prequel graphic novels and Monsterverse movie marathon, but it was breadcrumbs hinting that the marketing for the movie could start at any moment…or so we thought.
In the span of 24 hours, the movie's art book, The Art Of Godzilla vs Kong, and the children's book, Godzilla vs Kong: Sometimes Friends Fight, has seen their release dates change twice. The art book was changed to May 21, 2021 and the children's book was changed to April 6th, 2021 on Amazon. Then the next day, the release dates for the books were changed back to their original release dates (November 17th), and then changed for the third time to November 20, 2020 only for the art book. This sparked some debate among fans whether or not this is a sign that Godzilla vs Kong is considered being delayed again.
While it is possible that it could just be the books being delayed and maybe the movie isn't delayed, but usually the art books would release side by side with the movie's release. Also, if it is only the books being delayed why change their altered release dates back to their original release dates? If the books aren't delayed, then why even change them at all and specifically those dates? Are the books and the movie delayed or are they not delayed?
The only people that can answer these questions are from the books' authors and from Warner Bros., but the silence from Warner Bros. on any Godzilla vs Kong news is getting a lot of fans confused and frustrated. Some fans believe that it was a mistake and the movie isn't delayed and some fans believe the movie is delayed. I'm on the boat that believes the movie will get delayed and it is only a matter of time until it will be officially announced. In my opinion, the new release dates for the book were not supposed to be posted yet and Legendary/Warner Bros. contacted Amazon to change the dates back to November. My reason for this belief is that on the website, BAM! Books-A-Million, they still have Godzilla vs Kong: Sometimes Friends Fight listed to release on April 6th, 2021. The listing for the movie's art book on Barnes & Noble, Target, and Books-A-Million all list the book on the original release date, November 17th. So I think there is some talk behind the scenes that may have to do with pushing the movie back to next year and Amazon was not suppose to change anything until there is some announcement for the movie.
So far, any news has been mostly towards the graphic novels, which I find to be vapid. Information on the books are cool to hear about, but it's not offering any actual stimulation. It's not getting me excited for the movie. I believe that Warner Bros. should put out some sort of small content to get people excited for Godzilla vs Kong. A new poster, an image from the movie, an interview article, or even a 30 second teaser trailer saying "GODZILLA VS KONG COMING SOON". Just something small to at least hold the fans over until the movie's trailer drops. This year, we got a lot of images and interview articles for Dune and what does Godzilla vs Kong get? Leaked photos of toys, a movie marathon, and some books?
What do you guys think? Is Godzilla vs Kong going to be delayed or do you think it will only be the books? Or do you think there is no delay at all and should Warner Bros. start giving some info on the movie to hold us over?
