New Teaser Image & Tokyo Comic Con Panel Details Revealed

I hope all of you have been on the hype train this week with all of the viral marketing starting back up and the second trailer for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters coming this weekend at Tokyo Comic Con. More info has been released giving details at what will be at the Godzilla panel as well as a teaser image that was posted on the Japanese Godzilla Twitter page, which looks very dynamic. The panel will have a venue for an exclusive poster and there will be a reveal of Godzilla figures and a giant statue.

Godzilla roaring in Godzilla: King Of The Monsters

To start off, the details for the Godzilla panel at Tokyo Comic Con lists a few things that will be shown. According to the translation, the panel will start off with "new footage". In this case, this basically confirms the second trailer that everyone has been speculating on. The teaser image (shown above) that was posted with the tweet is evident that there is a new trailer on the way. The teaser image looks similar to the end shot in the first trailer (see image on right) where we see Godzilla roaring as helicopters fly past him in a thunder storm. The image above looks like a continuation of that same scene meaning that this is probably the beginning of the final showdown between Godzilla and King Ghidorah. Perhaps it's the same scene, but in a different angle? The only thing I am not liking about the new picture is the lens flare from the lightning flash. I find it sort of distracting when the main focus is suppose to be on Godzilla. I heard people speculate that the lightning flash is caused by Mothra using her bio-luminescence or god rays, but I think this is just regular lightning from the storm. Mothra was never described to be able to cause storms in the MONARCH case files on the Monarch Sciences website, however Mothra does need some other ability for her to fight with. So it could be Mothra coming down form the sky to aide Godzilla in the fight.

The next thing to be revealed is that director Mike Dougherty will be at the panel to promote the movie. I don't expect him to reveal anything new aside from what we already knew since this year's San Diego Comic Con. So far he has been trying to not spoil the movie and I believe he will continue that by giving as little info as possible.

S.H. MonsterArts Gamera from Gamera 3

Last ones are two interesting announcements. First is coming from Bandai's Tamashii Nations announcing they will be revealing the next S.H. MonsterArts figures. It is very possible that these figures are for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, but it could be anything Godzilla in general. If it is from the 2019 movie I expect Godzilla to be the only figure to be revealed. They did that for Godzilla (2014) and they seem to not be taking any interest in doing any other monsters at the moment unless it's MechaGodzilla. It was a big surprise that they released a Gamera figure from Gamera III, but this was really rare to see Bandai release a figure for. It is a breath of fresh air from all of the Godzilla figures that they released, but this was a response to collectors that were getting frustrated that Bandai was not releasing figures of other monsters. So what I expect to see is the same Godzilla (2014) figure with new dorsal plates. However, it did say "figures" meaning there are others to be revealed, so maybe we will see the King Of The Monsters versions of Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah in figure form. If not, then at least there is always NECA's Godzilla figures to look forward to as well.

Ken Watanabe at the Japanese pemiere for Godzilla

The other announcement is a giant sized Godzilla statue. There is usually a huge sized statue made when a new Godzilla movie is about to be released. Godzilla (2014) had one at both premieres of the movie's release in Los Angeles and Tokyo. There was a Godzilla statue made at the premiere of Shin Gojira back in 2016 and there was even a statue at the premiere for Godzilla: Monster Planet. So this is really nothing new, but how they will present it will be new. Usually, they don't show off the statue until the day of the movie's premiere. So whatever kind of Godzilla statue they made that needed to be shown right now has to be quite the big deal.

That is all for now that has been revealed. What are your thoughts on the details for the Godzilla panel? Do you expect anything else to be revealed at the panel or do you think the trailer is more than enough? If you're a collector, what do you expect to Tamashii Natioins to reveal for the S.H. MonsterArts line? Do you think we will get any new info for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters?
