New Godzilla vs Kong Clip Reveals Some New Incite On Kyle Chandler's Character

On yesterday's episode of the Ellen Degeneres Show, a new clip from Godzilla vs Kong was aired. This was due to actor Kyle Chandler appearing as a guest on the show. He and Ellen did not talk much about the movie itself other than this is Kyle's second time being in a movie with Kong and Godzilla. I know what I said about not wanting to watch any more clips, but this new clip tells a little bit more about Kyle Chandler's character, Mark Russell.

In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Mark Russell was a single father and ex-Monarch employee that felt a lot of resentment towards Godzilla for killing his younger son. On his journey to save his ex-wife, Emma, and his daughter, Madison, from terrorists, Mark had to face the reality that Godzilla is an essential force the planet requires to survive and had to come to terms with the loss of his son.

In the new clip Godzilla vs Kong, we see Mark arguing with Madison about Godzilla's odd behavior and does not want to worry about her going off doing her own investigations. Madison tries to explain to her father that Godzilla saved them in Boston and Mark shouldn't cast so much doubt on Godzilla since Mark was in Boston with Emma witnessing it. Madison continues to explain that Godzilla had to be provoked some how, but Mark shuts her down saying that isn't possible because an animal's behavior can change just like people and demands Madison to cut him some slack.

What this scene tells us is that Mark still has some resentment towards Godzilla and under a lot of pressure. Resentment not because of Emma's death, but because of Godzilla's current actions. Imagine having gone through a change where you thought you were starting to understand something only to have your whole view flipped upside down once more after a series of incidents. That is what I see Mark is going through. He knew what he experienced in King of the Monsters, but now his understanding of Godzilla has been put into question once again after Godzilla has been directly targeting people.

What I am not understanding is why Mark is thinking that Godzilla's actions are just a random change of behavior and not by some other means? In King of the Monsters, Mark understood that all of the monsters that woke up to Ghidorah's call were not acting random or erratic. They were just taking orders from Ghidorah like a pack of wolves takes orders from an alpha. By that logic, Mark should understand that Godzilla's actions and behaviors in Godzilla vs Kong are not as random as he thinks it is in the clip. Every action these monsters make always has some sort of purpose for them. This is where Madison comes in. She understands that something must have provoked Godzilla and that something is still out there.

This clip gives us an idea of what kind of person that Mark has become in Godzilla vs Kong, which is the kind of info I have been waiting for since the first trailer. You would think that with Kyle Chandler returning we would get to know a little more about his character. Instead, a lot of the focus has been on Millie Bobby Brown, Julian Dennison, Bryan Tyree Henry, Alexander Skarsgard, and so on. This is tell me that Kyle Chandler may play a much smaller role this time than he did in King of the Monsters, but at least we get to learn a little bit more about Mark in this clip.
