New Godzilla Twitter Account Begins Count Down To “Zero”

Last month, I made a post about a leaked image of a package design that was for Toho's upcoming Godzilla movie and I suggested that we should start expect marketing for the movie to start soon. In an interesting turn of events, a new Godzilla Twitter page has been created by Toho Co. specifically for the upcoming "Godzilla Zero" movie. It has made two posts so far seemingly doing a movie countdown starting at Shin Godzilla.

At the time of writing this, there is only Shin Godzilla and Godzilla: Final Wars thus far in the countdown. I am sure once I post this blog article the countdown will be at Godzilla: Tokyo SOS. If it stays consistent, though, then July 11th/12th would be the time when we get our official reveal.

The official countdown starts at Shin and ends with "Zero?"

I will say that in July there is San Diego Comic Con that will be going on from July 20-23. If Toho Co. decides to make an appearance, then we could see a reveal there. Yet in order for that to happen, the countdown would have to pause on every weekend up to SDCC. Right now, the countdown is staying consistent with one poster a day. So it makes me wonder if it will stay consistent even through the weekends or if it would skip the weekends entirely. If it stays consistent, then July 11th/12th is when we should see new information for "Godzilla Zero."

However, our favorite little birdie KdM has announced that Toho Co. will make two major announcements in July AND August. In August, there is a convention that Toho Co. has started attending as recent as 2019 called Anime Matsuri. This convention usually happens every year in Houston, Texas and it will be through August 10th-13th this year. My guess here for Toho Co.'s major announcement is a release date for "Godzilla Zero" in America. The kicker here is if the movie will have a wide release or limited release. When Shin Godzilla was released in America the movie had a limited theatrical release. Although as of recent, the Alamo Draft House and Fathom Events has been releasing Godzilla movies every November to celebrate Godzilla's anniversary with Godzilla Tokyo SOS/Godzilla vs Gigan Rex being the exception having a showing back in March of this year. So it will be interesting to see what Toho's big announcement is at Anime Matsuri once August rolls in.

I do hope we do get something like a movie trailer. I am actually excited to see how this new Godzilla movie from Toho looks. My only other hope is that the movie does not become another copy of Shin Godzilla. I am tired of seeing Godzilla have stages of evolution or mutations. I know the whole reason for Godzilla having different evolutions was to sell more toys and merchandise. However, I don't want to keep seeing this concept used over and over losing that uniqueness to Shin Godzilla. Each new iteration of the monster should be unique and memorable on their own.

What are your thoughts on the countdown on the new Godzilla Twitter page? Do you think we will see something around July 11th/12th?
