UPDATE: NECA Reveals They Will Do More Than Just Godzilla

Good morning to all of you! Today is the day when the Godzilla: King Of The Monsters will be dropping the first trailer. Before the trailer drops, I just want to bring you some quick and exciting news to you toy collectors out there. Last night, NECA reveals that they will be doing figures for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, but now they are doing more than just just Godzilla. They also revealed that they have the rights for other monsters now, which means they will be doing the whole monster roster for the 2019 film. Do you know what that means? Expect Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah to get action figure versions from NECA. This is actually a big deal for those that collect Godzilla figures because if NECA does it right then Bandai and Tamashii Nations are going to have huge competition. There will be people that will collect the more expensive Godzilla figures, but collectors have also been looking for a cheaper option in collecting Godzilla figures. I cannot wait to see what comes out of the wood works from NECA as they seem to get the line rolling again after some licensing issues. If it becomes popular enough, imagine them bringing out other monsters from the Godzilla line.

UPDATE:

Just this morning, a video interview with NECA's director of product development, Randy Falk, has dropped. The interview is an exclusive from the website, TOHO Kingdom. The video has Randy explaining what was causing the licensing issue and that now they are working with TOHO Co. directly. When they first started the Godzilla line they had to go through TOHO's 3rd party distributors such as Warner Bros. for approval. With their contract with Warner Bros. ending they were not sure if they were going to do the Godzilla 2019 line. Since NECA is now working with TOHO directly, they now have more creative freedom to do more Godzilla figures as well as other monsters. Here are the things mentioned in the interview:

  • In the beginning, licensing rights came from Warner Bros. on behalf of TOHO.

  • At the beginning of the new year, TOHO has taken full control of North American licensing, which now allows NECA to do business directly instead through a 3rd party.

  • NECA had a couple ideas shot down such as Ghost Godzilla, Marvel Godzilla, and the Hannah Barbera Godzilla figures.

  • NECA would like to make a 12x24 inch Godzilla 54 figure and a figure of the Super Godzilla video game figure.

  • The Shin Godzilla atomic blast/awakening version has been done for a year waiting for approval and is finally seeing release thanks to TOHO.

  • Randy expects the Atomic Blast/Awakening Shin Godzilla figure to be released by the end of September, the 54 poster version to be released by this holiday, and the 62 figure by April 2019. This is so then there is always something on store shelves until Godzilla: King Of The Monsters is released in theaters.

That is some of the stuff from the interview, but Randy does confirm again that there will be more monsters other than Godzilla on the way. Check out the interview in the video below for more information.
