Last year, we learned that Godzilla vs Kong was filming under the production name, APEX, and we got a synopsis on what this movie is about. Now, we have some minor updates that I want to discuss that gives us a little bit of an idea as to what might be happening in the movie. On the movie's IMDB page, the cast list updated information on the roles for smaller characters.
The first thing we learn on the cast list is that part of the movie will be taking place in Shanghai and Hong Kong. From this, we can start speculating that Kong may have left Skull Island and fights Godzilla in either one or both cities. However, it is unknown if Kong leaves Skull Island by force (such as being put to sleep and shipped out to China) or if Kong leaves Skull Island on his own. Either way, we can confirm that one of the fights will be happening in Shanghai and/or Hong Kong. That is not the only piece of information that we learn from the casting list.
The next bit of information is kind of a big deal because we learn that APEX is not just the movie's production name. We see that Apex is an whole new group/organization in this movie. I believe that Apex will be the rival organization of Monarch. The reason I believe that is in the synopsis.
"In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity's fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans' origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe out the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever."
We can now confirm that this human conspiracy will be caused by this group, Apex, but we still don't know what Apex really is and who formed this organization. Is it a government organization formed to replace Monarch or is it a terrorist organization? Based on the casting list, it does not look like Apex is a terrorist organization, but rather a private corporation. If we go by the cliche comic book trope, corporations tend to be places where the villains are born (unless that corporation is owned by Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark). So maybe Apex was making a Franken-Titan that got loose and Godzilla and Kong have to team up and fight it.
Like everybody else, I am itching for a trailer so we can get a better understanding. Right now, Godzilla vs Kong is slated for release on March 13, 2020. It just seems like we should have seen something, but my guess is that Warner Bros. is waiting until Godzilla: King Of The Monsters is released digitally and on home video before releasing the trailer.
