Hear ye, hear ye, one and all! News does not stop and will not stop for the Monsterverse! This time, we have more details regarding the fifth film under the working title “ORIGINS.”
In a press release from Legendary, actors Brian Tyree Henry, Rebecca Hall, and Kaylee Hottle will be returning to reprise their roles as Bernie Hayes, Ilene Andrews, and Jia. They will be joining with newcomers Dan Stevens (The Guest, Beauty and the Beast, and Downton Abbey), Fala Chen (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Alex Ferns (The Batman, Wrath of Man, and Chernobyl), and Rachel House (Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Thor: Ragnarok, and Foundation). There is a rumor Dan Stevens will be playing Stephen Randa, who is supposedly the son of Bill Randa played by John Goodman in Kong: Skull Island. Nothing is confirmed on Stevens’ role until an official source says otherwise.
While we still do not have an official synopsis for the film, a more detailed description was highlighted from an article.
“The latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own.”
The description continues, “The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”
Along with this is our actual first look at the production of the fifth film. It shows director Adam Wingard with Brian Tyree Henry on set of what looks to be a control room with what looks to be two extras acting as guards. The question is, are these guards from Monarch or are they henchmen for another terrorist organization like APEX or Jonah Alan’s group of mercenaries?
EDIT: I have been given word that the above photo is not our actual first look of the fifth movie, but rather a set photo from Godzilla vs Kong. Apparently, the scene taking place in the photo is from a deleted scene as the bodyguard with the gun in the background is actually an assassin hired by Ren Serizawa (Shun Oguri) to kill Walter Simmons (Demián Bichir). However, this scene was altered to have MechaGodzilla kill Walter Simmons in the final cut.
When it comes to the movie's description, it confirms what we have been speculating all year about Godzilla and Kong having to team up for most of the movie rather than another rematch. Is it possible that Godzilla and Kong will trade blows? Sure, it is always possible that they will throw punches at each other for a minute before their fight is disrupted by the main big bad. We now know that this movie will NOT be a Godzilla vs Kong 2. So to those that were worried, you can rest easy knowing that this is not a rematch.
