The viral marketing for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters keeps just keeps giving and giving. Through out this month of December, we got our first look at Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah in the form of S.H. MonsterArts figures. Then on Monday, we got both a poster and the second trailer for the film. Last night, Michael Dougherty and Legendary Pictures revealed three more posters for Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah and they look absolutely amazing!
I really love how each monster a certain color pallet to represent them. Godzilla's poster is blue because of his dorsal fins and his atomic breath glows blue. Rodan's poster is red to keep the theme that he came from a volcano. Mothra is green because of her bio-luminescence and Ghidorah's poster is yellow because of his ability to create storms and shoot lightning from his mouths and also the fact that his body is covered in gold scales. When you put the posters together they look very modern. It really makes me want to get all four posters and hang them together on my wall.
To go along with the three new posters, Dougherty adds a specific verse from the Book of Revelation from the Bible to each poster, which bides well with the tone of the movie being apocalyptic and expanding the mythology of these monsters being god-like.
For Rodan, the verse comes from Revelation 11:7 - "For the Beast that comes out of the Abyss will make war with them...and kill them."
Mothra's verse comes from Revelation 9:3 - 9:4 - "Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions over the earth. They were told not to harm the grass or any other green growth or any tree, but only those of mankind."
And Ghidorah's verse comes from Revelation 9:1 - 9:2 - "They have as king over them, the angel of the Abyss. A star fallen from heaven to earth, he opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and from the shaft rose smoke like that of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened."
Godzilla does not have a verse from the Bible, but if I were to choose which one to pick I think Job 41:23 - 26 would suit him perfectly. It reads, "He makes the depths boil like a pot; he makes the sea like a perfume bottle. Behind him he leaves a shining path; you would think the deep had white hair. Upon the earth there is none like him, he was made fearless. He looks over all who are haughty, he is king over all proud beasts." Even though it doesn't follow any of the verses from Revelation, it still keeps the biblical theme and it describes Godzilla in this movie perfectly as being a ruler over all the monsters.
What do you think of the posters? Is there a poster that you like most or do you like all of them? What verse from the bible do you think would best fit Godzilla?
