With Godzilla Day now having come and went, you would think with the announcement of a new Godzilla film from Toho Co., figure reveals, and premiers of two short films we have heard pretty much everything. Well, it seems like there was one more semi-announcement. At 9:45 pm CST, Godzilla: King of the Monsters actor O'Shea Jackson Jr. posted on Twitter a proposed passion project of ANOTHER Monsterverse TV show.
Titled Monarch: G – Team, the idea of the show is to explore characters from Godzilla: King of the Monsters have them branch off into adventuring places where there is Titan activity. O'Shea Jackson Jr. worked on a script with Toho Kingdom's Chris Mirjahangir and concept art by Sean Sumagaysay. In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the G-Team was America's equivalence to Japan's G-Force in the Godzilla Heisei era and G-Graspers in Godzilla vs Megaguirus. They are a military group that specifically fights these monsters and make sure to evacuate affected areas when a monster is about to make landfall.
Two monsters in these pieces of concept art depicts Biollante as a Titan that is worshipped by many people and an organic style of Gigan. Biollante first appeared in the 1989 movie Godzilla vs Biollante and has only appeared in one film ever since. Godzilla fans have been wanting to see this monster return in a new movie whether that is in the Monsterverse or in a new Toho film. Gigan had just celebrated its 50th anniversary on November 3rd with reveals of figures and premier of the two short films, Godzilla vs Gigan Rex and Godzilla Fest 3: Gigan Attacks. Also, the idea of seeing a more organic or animalistic depiction of Gigan has been speculated and talked about by fans for many years. Since Gigan is a cyborg it had to have once been entirely animal to begin with. An animal that was stripped away from the life it once had just to be used as a weapon. If Monarch: G–Team ever gets the green light then we might potentially see Biollante and Gigan in the Monsterverse.
Right now, there is the fifth Monsterverse movie under the working title "ORIGINS" and the two Monsterverse shows for Netflix and Apple TV+ currently in production. On top of that, Legendary Entertainment is looking for a new studio to partner with eyeing either Sony or Paramount. So to juggle a fourth Monsterverse project would be very difficult at this time. If Monarch: G–Team ever does get the green light, then we are not seeing this show air for a long time.
However, I lend out my support for O'Shea Jackson Jr. and I would really like to see his project get the green light. He has talked about his love for the Godzilla franchise in interviews about Godzilla: King of the Monsters and to see more of his character (Chief Warrant Officer Barnes) and possibly other characters from the film would give them a chance to shine. To give him his support make sure to like and retweet his post, which can be found here.
