January is almost over, but it looks like we are getting one last pull of reveals before the month ends. Netflix has dropped the first official clip and plot synopsis to the upcoming film, Troll 2, the sequel to Troll which released on Netflix back in December 2022.
Netflix's description of the film is, as followed: "When a powerful new troll is awakened, chaos spreads across Norway, thrusting Nora (Ine Marie Wilmann), Andreas (Kim Falck), and Captain Kris (Mads Sjørgård Pettersen) into their most dangerous mission yet. To stop the creature's rampage, they must make new allies, new weapons, and dive into ancient Norwegian history for answers. Can they overcome the impossible odds to save their country from the brink of darkness?"
In the clip Netflix provided, we don't see the monster nor the damage from the rampage. Yet, we do see Nora and Andreas are escorted into a hangar where we see Captain Kris reveal the Norwegian Armed Forces' new helicopter the "Sunna" (meaning Sun), which is armed with UV lights powerful enough for troll hunting.
From what we can learn, the Norwegian Armed Forces has learned from their experience in the last movie that trolls are weak to UV light. This time, they are armed and prepared for the next troll attack. Or at least they hope they are prepared this time. This new troll is said to be powerful, according to the synopsis. We don't know how powerful, but if they are having to turn to their ancient history once again then they will need more than just UV lights this time around to stop this new troll.
There is stuff about this movie we still don't know, however. It makes me wonder why the main characters need to turn back to history to stop this new troll if their Armed Forces are now prepared. What could have happened that raises the stakes this time around?
My guess here is that there are probably more than one trolls attacking Norway. Perhaps they are on a collision course and the Armed Forces are doing everything they can to stop them. I can imagine a scene taken from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire where we see one troll is already on the attack and we see another rise out of the mountains. Once he stands up, this troll lets out a roar loud enough to cause the other make a B-line to the other troll much like how Kong found himself in Cairo just to call for Godzilla, who was in Gibraltar. The two trolls find each other in Oslo and begin duking it out.
There are a coupe of images from the movie that was also shared by Netflix. In the first image, there is Nora and Andreas with two other people looking up at something. Most probable guess is that these two men are troll researchers and they are looking at remains of the troll from the first movie. The remains, perhaps, had to be preserved differently from regular bones and fossils so they do not calcify or crumble from the sunlight. Above them, however, is an observation window. There is even a person staring through that window at the main characters and the main characters do seem to be staring up at something. So another idea could be these people are housing a live troll so they can research it, which escapes later in the movie.
The second image shows Nora, Andreas, and Captain Kris with two other people peering through a tunnel. They are searching for something. It looks like these characters are going to learn more about the history of these trolls and what this new troll is after this time.
There is no release date other than the movie being slated later this year. We may not see another trailer until this Summer. We may not even see this movie until December like the first movie. So I will keep a close eye as more develops.
