Can't get enough Godzilla? Yes, you're tired of it? Well, the train isn't stopping there, folks! Since I have been away for a while, I have some major catching up to do. We have Godzilla news leaking that not even Mario can fix these leaky pipes. There is so much that not even I know what to do with them. So let's start with the latest and work our way down to the least current pieces.
Starting off is the "news" from Hollywood Reporter that Godzilla: City On The Edge Of Battle, part 2 of the ongoing animated Godzilla: Monster Planet trilogy, is set to come out on Netflix THIS WEEK! As hyped as I was about this announcement, I found it odd that it was coming from Hollywood Reporter instead of Netflix themselves. When Godzilla: Planet Of The Monsters was announced by Netflix it was announced a couple weeks before the movie's release. Seeing as there is no confirmation yet from Netflix on the release date for Godzilla: City On The Edge Of Battle I highly doubt it would be released this week. Yet, I am in no rush to see this movie anytime soon as the first movie was not very enjoyable to watch. I am hoping that the second movie surpasses my expectations to justify the first movie. I will be reviewing Godzilla: City On The Edge Of Battle as soon as it is released on Netflix.
The long awaited rematch, Godzilla VS Kong, has started to role out the first cast members. The first actor to be announced is Deadpool 2 actor, Julian Dennison. Dennison played the character, Firefist, in Deadpool 2. While he is not a well-known actor he is an up and coming one. Next on the roster is Ziyi Zhang. You may not have heard of her name, but she is known in other more popular movies you may have seen her in. One of her earliest movies were Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Rush Hour 2, House Of Flying Daggers, and even in February's Netflix bombshell, The Cloverfield Paradox. Zhang is also starring in Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, the sequel to the 2014 remake. Her role is currently unknown, but whatever her role is she will be reprising it and obviously a big enough role to come back for Godzilla VS Kong. Last, but not least, it is rumored that Stranger Things star, Millie Bobby Brown, and Kyle Chandler will also return to witness the ultimate showdown. Brown and Chandler are also starring in Godzilla: King Of The Monsters playing the daughter/father roles, Madison and Mark Russell. If the rumor is true, then this will be the second time that Kyle Chandler will be in a Godzilla movie and a King Kong movie. Kyle Chandler starred in Peter Jackson's 2005 remake, King Kong.
Even though Godzilla: King Of The Monsters was pushed back to May 31, 2019, it is still not as bad of a wait. It is only a year away, but last week there was another test screening. The details came from Reddit and one user gave some detail on the screening saying that "it's awesome." The details are as listed:
The characters are much more likeable than the characters in the 2014 remake.
There are mentions to Kong: Skull Island, but only to tie the movies together.
The monsters and the monster fights are spectacular even though the scenes were just previsualizations and they are in almost every scene.
The user goes on to say that there was nothing, but great reactions from the audience and that fans won't be disappointed. So far, it is still saying the same thing from the first test screening, but with some improvements. San Diego Comic Con is just a month away and if we are to see any footage of Godzilla: King Of The Monsters it will come from there.
